My Mom has been using our large dog crate for her puppy, but brought it back yesterday. Just as I was thinking the chicks would outgrow their tub in a week or so. So, I set it up on top of drywall on top of the bath tub, cut some wallboard 18 inches high to fit around the sides, and voila! An awesome 8 square foot instant chick brooder. The chicks are sooo happy in there. They are flapping and flying and jumping and running around like they've gone berserk. It's hilarious.

How many chicks are in it? I'm thinking of using one for mine. I'm getting 6 and I'm thinking this will serve the purpose for them for the next 6 to 8 weeks till they get outside without having to find something bigger for the last week or two

Just make sure they can't fit through the little bars... I tried that last year, and they fit through, but... it was a larger crate. Big enough for our German Shepherd. We had baby chicks running loose in our room!

It is a large one...not sure the exact dimensions.....I plan on using cardboard or ripping up some plywood and lining from the floor of the cage up about a foot to 16 inches

You should be fine then... That was our first experience with chicks last year... It was a mess! I put it in my room, and put straw in there, they got loose, there was chick poo, and straw smell in my room for a few days. I thought my husband was gonna kill me!
