They never live long enough and they always break your heart...

Crying as I read this.... having lost 2 horses in the last 3 years, it is very painful.

You have my deepest sympathies. She was beautiful!

Tricia...I'm so sorry you lost two...that doesn't seem fair.

Stanley seems a little less stressed this evening. I gave him some Ace when I saw him so stressed this morning - and that has long since worn off...so I hope he's adjusting.

Tomorrow lessons start up again...and I'll be having to explain all this to the kids. I sent an email to all the parents to let them prepare the kids however they think is best.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I lost a horse very dear to me when I was just starting out riding. Cancer. Couldn't eat. It was hard. But I know now that she could never compare to the love I have for my horse now and the day I lose him will be a very bad day.
Again, I can only imagine how hard it is. I'm so sorry.

I am so sorry!

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I can't thank you guys enough...this is just what I've needed. My non-horse-y friends are sympathetic, but don't understand as you guys do...there is a comfort in that, for sure.

The vet aged her at early 30's when she floated her teeth in January. We were told by the seller that she was 6 - 8 years old when we bought her in 1990. The vet who did the PPE said she was probably closer to 10. So, it's probably accurate that she was early 30's.

One thing I would have done differently (hind-sight is 20/20) is to put her on a long-term, slow-release pain medication. She was on Cosequin, bute (PRN), and pro-biotics...but she might have been helped to be on a protocol that kept her from getting too ouchy.

Then again, she was 30+ years old, and Dr. Weaver said if this hadn't happened today, it might have been tomorrow....or worse - in August when the sun here is merciless.

We just didn't see this coming - she was pretty spry & doing well on her current protocol. When I turned her out yesterday morning, she flagged her tail and trotted off just like any other day. *sigh*

If Ihad known.....
