The vet aged her at early 30's when she floated her teeth in January. We were told by the seller that she was 6 - 8 years old when we bought her in 1990. The vet who did the PPE said she was probably closer to 10. So, it's probably accurate that she was early 30's.
One thing I would have done differently (hind-sight is 20/20) is to put her on a long-term, slow-release pain medication. She was on Cosequin, bute (PRN), and pro-biotics...but she might have been helped to be on a protocol that kept her from getting too ouchy.
Then again, she was 30+ years old, and Dr. Weaver said if this hadn't happened today, it might have been tomorrow....or worse - in August when the sun here is merciless.
We just didn't see this coming - she was pretty spry & doing well on her current protocol. When I turned her out yesterday morning, she flagged her tail and trotted off just like any other day. *sigh*
If Ihad known.....
Don't beat yourself up - she is using her wings now.
