Sometime next week we'll get that call (the ONLY time I like to be awakened at 5:30 AM).

We have the brooder planned, but not yet built. Typical for us!

43ish fluffy bums headed our way!

Congrats! Time to work on the brooder, methinks.

Fortunately setting one up is really not that hard. Against my better judgment, I allowed DD to talk me into two new chicks at the feed store tonight. We ran home and left them in the box for 30 mins while she set up the brooder. Not ideal, I realize, as it would have been better to have it set up before going to the store, but I figure Mama hen has newly hatched chicks outside in 60-degree weather foraging, so these chicks aren't going to expire if they have to wait 30 mins to get back under a heat lamp....

We have a brooder that will hold about 12 birds...Husband has plans and we have the materials. We just need to cut the wood and tack everything together.
That will only take an hour, right?

Well, we have two before Home Destroy, I mean, Depot closes.

Plenty of time!!

Actually, just two. One for when they arrive, and one to add on when they're about two weeks old and need more space. we're going to put a little door thingey between the two.

Aw dang, They arrived today! And we have 47!
EEKS!

No, the brooder's not finished (of course!)

I'll be MacGyvering it today...

But they're all alive and peeping like mad!
