I have 8 adult coturnix. 3 males that I got 15 days ago and 5 females that I got on saturday. Two hours after I put them in their house, I found 2 eggs. They haven't laid any eggs since.
It's been more than 48 hours, do you think it's because they aren't used to this new location? The shop had them crammed in a small cage, at least 4-5 quails per sqft. I have 8 in a 12 sqft area so they should be much less stressed. Should I just wait a few days? They have the same food they were eating in the shop.
And I also changed the light schedule from 12 hours of light at night to 14 hours of light during the day.

very common, people call me after they get home "they quit laying eggs, you said they were laying"
so now I tell every person...

when they get home they will be stressed from the move and new home, give them a week and they will go back to laying
weather also can play a factor this time of the year with the temps rising and falling

I promise you will have more eggs than you know what to do with here shortly

Well its been exactly two weeks and still no eggs. I will replace their 30w cfl with a stronger one. perhaps they werent getting enough light

if that doesn't work try a full spectrum bulb. or better yet natural sun light. not just reflective light from a window but direct sun light, with shade so they do not get too hot..

I installed a 125W cfl. The males have a huge balloon of foam near their vent. And foam comes out with their poo. I wasn't able to see any mating (I saw them mating the first day I got them,but never saw them mating since).
Sunlight is not an option unfortunately.
I'll give them a week and see.
