"they'll be ok for 2 seconds"

Rockin' Reds :

WOW...I was really sad for a minute and then scrolled down a bit!! Hurray!!! So glad you found her!! Where was she??

just tentatively walking around in the back yard...

she must have found a clever place to hide, we looked everywhere

my wife is going to be so relieved, and my son is a new man, it was his bird

Yes Player Hater, welcome to the world of chicken keeping!!! EVERYTHING loves chicken,
........and they can sometimes hurt themselves. My 1 and only splash marans hen managed to get herself hung up in a pallet that was leaning against the coop. Just like young children, they need to be watched carefully. But with chickens, penning them is a good way of keeping them safe when you can't be there.
Please don't be upset with yourself.......it's all part of the learning process of being a chicken lover/keeper. My experiences have been much like yours, but my predators have been coyote and hawk.
Just understand YOU are not the only one that LOVES your chickes.

now all i have to worry about is the bird with the minor cut

i'll try not to learn things the hard way in the future

Yay I am so glad you found the fourth pullet! The one that has a scratch I would just rinse it out with warm water then apply some non-medicated neosporin (sp?) But just keep an eye on that one, to make sure the others don't pick at her wound, making it worse.

well of course now that it's over i'm really worried about both the bird that was missing for a period and the one that wrestled with the fence

they are 3-4 weeks old, a black australorp (missing) and a white orpington (fence)

the black one doesn't seem any worse for the wear; and the white one has a small injury like i said, but it scabbed over quickly, and except for an ineffectual attempt with a baby wipe, went untended during the search for the other pullet

should i fiddle with her cut and try to disinfect it or leave her alone? it's seems like a bad idea to grab her and harass her about it after it's already scabbed over
