They're Cooking A Silkie On Food Network For Halloween...

Quote:
Standard white silkies are used for meat. They are prized for medicine, so don't have to be like what Americans see as meat birds. Often, the meat isn't eaten, the bird is just an ingredient to a soup. Often 12-16 ounces packaged is all you get.

Sounds like the next breeding project around here! Mutant Monster Silkies x Cornish!

Aren't silkies in the US a mid-sized silkie? I think in other countries they come in two sizes, one that is a little smaller and one that is larger, than the silkies here. I would think the ones that are larger would be better to raise, if they were being used for food.

Depending on the herbs and what not added to the soups, they can be anything from sickness, memory, arthritis, stamina, PMS and so on. Angelica root, wolf berries, bamboo, foxglove root, lotus seeds, licorice root, dates, gingsing of various types... No idea how to make them myself, just know most concoctions taste TERRIBLE vs chicken soup.
