It seems an eternity since I ordered my ten chicks from My Pet Chicken. At long last, the phone call from the post office came in at 7:10 this morning. I drove there with much trepidation. A neighbor's dog mauled my beloved cat to death last week, and I wasn't sure how well I'd handle any more death if the babies didn't fare well on the journey. Thank God (and I did, several times), the babies were not only all alive, but healthy and robust. They were running around the brooder, eating, and drinking within moments of me putting them in there!

Many thanks to the members here who've posted their ideas and experiences. I'm sure the reason I have ten very happy and cozy chicks pecking about their brooder right now is the information I've picked up from you.

Here's a shot of my babies inside their shipping carton.

I have five BOs (1 cockeral, 4 pullets), 1 EE pullet (barely seen on the left under the pile of BOs), and 4 RIR pullets. Poor little Pascua, the EE, is already showing signs of being the low pullet in the pecking order.

Such little cuties. Can't hardly remember when my beasts were that small. I wish you continued good luck with them.
