8 weeks old now and it looks like the sexing was 100% accurate. Yay!

I went out at dusk to close the door for the big girls and looked in on the little ones. Victoria (self-proclaimed mom to the other chicks even though she's the same age!) was on the roost calling to the others. Dorothy Sussex hopped up there next to her and then Agnes EE. Mabel was on the floor all by herself complaining loudly in her tiny, growling voice. I went ahead and grabbed her (boy did she screech about that!) and put her on the roost. They chattered a bit and then settled for the night.

Dorothy also challenged one of the hens over some crumbled, cooked yolk. I made an angel cake and had no use for a dozen yolks so I cooked them and fed them to our critters. The cat and dog had some and the chickens got several -- all were enthusiastic about their treat. Dot was enjoying a chunk when Gertie tried to take it from her. She defended her treat successfully! I was floored because of all of the hens, Gertie is not the one I'd mess with. But, she's shockingly tolerant of the chicks. Gloria (the hen that assigned herself the task of running off the newbies) has stopped chasing them every time she sees them. She even ignored them using a dusting area yesterday. We're getting there!
