I'm so excited! Just did 2nd candling, and I'm 6 for 6! There may be one quitter, the duck blob was in there, but the veining wasn't as crisp as the others. But the rest, in those eggs swimming around already! I've never seen that much movement in a chicken egg, so that was neat.
But the coolest thing, the 2 shipped eggs out of the 6 that were badly, BADLY damaged, they're growing too! 3 eggs arrived broken, one other with detached air sac and ruptured yolk. The remaining two "only" had ruptured are sacs so I set them anyways. They're GROWING! Now... if they'll hatch. We'll know the 29th for them.
The first is due on the 22nd, can't wait!
Then right after the final two decide to make an appearance or not, I should receive the replacements from the shipping tragedy. We decided to wait on those, to avoid furthering the stagger in this hatch.
This weekend we start the alterations to the chicken house. I'm thinking of adding a building on the fence line for the ducks, and some room in the coop. That way the chickens don't have to lose too much space. Not sure yet. Need to go outside and stake off my intentions and do the math on supplies.
Wanting to keep 5 ducks. 4 girls and a boy. We'll see what hatches and go from there.
