I heard that Buttons can't stay in the bator as long as chicks can, is that true, I heard 12 hours is the max for them?

yea that is true -- once they are dry and I have a couple of them I move them to the brooder as soon as I can - these little guys are amazing and find food and water pretty fast on thier own.

when I hatch mine I am normally running back and forth from bator to brooder carrying at least 2-3 at a time - LOL

as far as food goes - I use the non medicated chick starter - I dont grind mine up instead I put alittle in a dish add some warm water and make a mush with it - I let them eat this for a few weeks and than start to decrese the amount of water until they are finally eating the food dry - than I normally switch tham to a game bird feed.

this seems to work for us - I do this for my coturnix and my bobwhite also.

good luck with the rest of your hatch - cant wait to see pics of them fully dry

I try to pull mine as soon as they are dry just because they are so darn fast and when you have 5 or 6 running for the edge trying to leap out (and they can) it is a pain.
Max I would leave them in is 12 hours!

As soon as they are dry and walking around, pluck them out quickly and put them in your brooder with plenty of heat. Definitely grind the food... I don't think the Amprol will hurt them, but the kitten chow works in a pinch. They will start eating and drinking right away... add marbles to their water dish so they don't drown, and they are attracted to the pretty marbles so they drink.
