I ordered from Ideal and got the same thing. I ordered 10 Cornish and 5 Rhode Island Reds and end up with 10 Male Barred Rocks extra. They said they were added for extra warmth.

I ordered 10 ameraucanas and got 10 extra boys for warmth. We figure they'll be dinners or rehomed if we find that we can't do the deed.

You know, I just did some math and I just realized that I am going to end up with 86 chicks what with the ones I have ordered along with the 51 chicks that McM is ending up having to send me.

I'll be building coops all spring and summer it looks like... what was I thinking?! That brings my total head count up to 101 chickens! Even if 40 of the 86 chicks are male that still leaves me with roughly 60 hens!!


I really do feel a little faint....

Runswithscissors, I feel your pain! LOL I did the same thing. A close friend is seriously ill, and I was spending long nights surfing on the computer because I couldn't sleep. Thought to myself, hey, I bet some chicks would be a great project. Give me some stress relief. Ordered 25 assorted bantams from Ideal, was very happy. Except then my friend took a turn for the worse. More nights, and this special sale thing from Ideal shows up on my email! Assorted bantams, really cheap! What the hey, life is short I said to myself. Ordered 25 more to come two weeks after first order. Hmmm. Then it dawns on me that hey, wait a minute....thats 50 chickens. I already have 14. And bless Ideal, they sent some extras, haha!

I ordered from a couple different hatcheries, sat down last night and started adding them up, 290 assorted hens, 30 roosters. Add that to the 50 hens and 4 roos we have, looks like a couple more houses this spring.
