tHEY'RE HERE!! - PICS! Getting cochin bantams on Friday!

Just a quick question. I've raised 27 standard chicks who are now 8 weeks old. I'm getting 25 cochin bantams on Friday.

I'm assuming that the temp. of the brooder and the other conditions are the same as the standards. Are there any special precautions we should take because of their little size?

You're gonna love these little ones, they are so cute and extra tiny! I learned something here that I'd like to pass along to you. I lost a couple of my CB babies and I never thought that the chick starter pieces might have been too big for them and that could have contributed to losing them.
Someone, sorry can't remember who now suggested that you grind it up to smaller pieces in your blender! It was like magic just the right size for these intsy babies!

I will be always thankful to you for this suggestion.

I agree with the previous post about putting the crumbles in a blender or food processor.

Thank you so much! I am so excited to be getting them.

I ordered them Tues. at 12 noon, and they called at 3:30 to say they had hatched and would ship Wed. and arrive Fri!

That's really exciting. I did the same thing. Started with the 10 big chicks and got 3 banties (2 silkies - 1 cochin) at about 10 wks.

Since I only had the 3, I just stuck the crumbles in a ziplock bag and pounded it so it was smaller for about 5-6 wks.

It was interesting but my 3 banties like the temp starting out at 85-90' rather then 95' like the big birds.

They seem to grow at a much slower rate or it just wasn't noticable. The big once grew over night.

I got an assortment so I'm excited to see what kind they sent too! My only fear since they would only send st. run bantams is ending up with 24 roosters!

I ordered all my babies st run and got quite a few roos, but I don't think it was too bad! I like the roos almost as much as the girls! Fact one of my little black CB is a baby an when I come out to hang out with them in the coop I sit in my chair and he flys up onto my lap and just sits there and we admire each other!!!

I just adore my CB babies, all of them!! I know you are going to love ALL your babies roos & hens alike!

Aren't they adorable!!! It looks like I got quite a variety as well. I ordered 25 and they sent 33!!! They all made it, and are eating, drinking, and as you can tell pooping!
