Thin shelled eggs... Normal?

... I give them calcium in their feed- mixed in- from tractor supply ...

Why would this happen? I guess once is ok- two times is a cause for concern?
Do you mean it is layer feed - comes with calcium mixed in? Or that you have oyster shell that you mix into their feed?

Do the normal eggs have shells about as thick as the eggs you get from the store? If they do, I agree it is most likely just a glitch.

I’ve been fighting thin shells for months now. I’ve done EVERYTHING I know to do,
Still thin shells.
My hens are sexlinks.
I don’t know if this breed does it.
Last week one Kaye’s one with out a shell or membrane. If she had payed it in a pan, I could have fried it. Calcium, food feed, grind their shells. I hope someone has an answer, but I’ve spent enough money and time, treating for parasites and mites,
Done…

What kind of feed, exactly, brand and formulation?
Are you feeding anything else...treats?
What and when as far as treating for "parasites and mites"?
How old are they, in months?

I have a young hen about 3-4 months old who just started laying. she laid an egg with no shell. She has laid 5 eggs in her life plus the one without the shell. I give them calcium in their feed- mixed in- from tractor supply and also diatom earth- for parasites like a teaspoon per gallon of mixed feed. Not much. And not everytime.

I freaked out too... my Barred rocks laid a total of 7 thin shelled/membrane eggs! After a couple weeks it stopped though. I took the fellow poster's advice and supplemented the crushed egg shell with oyster shell and it cleared up. They are 5.5 months now and are laying 5-6 a week!
