This cream legbar hen laid a normal turquoise egg for a couple months. Then she started laying these ultra thin shelled eggs. For the last three months, we always find them crushed or smashed or half eaten in the coop. The last four days, I’ve given her a calcium citrate pill every day. My 11 laying hens all have access to oyster shells and layer feed.
Since she’s been laying these thin-shelled eggs, this is the thickest shelled egg we’ve seen. It has all the little calcium deposits dots on the shell. The calcium is getting through, but is her shell gland just messed up? This is by far the craziest egg I’ve seen, but she hasn’t laid a normal egg for months now.
It’s like she has reproductive diarrhea! Is there anything I can do?
