Things puppies aren't supposed to eat

Itsy that's just cruel. Those cookies look so good. Of course you realize they're chocolate. Gus and I are coming over for Christmas. EDIT: I hope you don't also mind some saddlebreds, budgies, kitties, and of course chickerdoodles. Oh, and most of my relatives still live in upstate NY, but you won't even notice them.

Didn't know about grapes and onions. My stupid dog loves grapes! Guess that'll have to stop. Does anybody know the active chemical in these that is bad for dogs?

2 things that you should definately never let your dog chew on are golfballs and linoleum. They both contain high levels of lead and other heavy metals. Under normal circumstances they are basically inert, but in a dogs very powerful stomach acids they are released and can cause real damage.

My last golden retriever suffered from lifelong GI issues probably due to eating the linoleum in my bathroom. Fortunately in all other aspects he was a healthy dog. Don't know if their were any neurological symptoms, he was a golden retriever, they are naturally retarded in a funny endearing kind of way.

x2, Jamie_Dog_Trainer! What one dog can tolerate, maybe another can't, and sometimes the results of organ damage don't show right away. I believe that it's always best to err on the side of caution and be vigilant as to what your pet is eating/getting into. They depend on us to look out for them.

Well he got to have the dog bone one off of that plate! I even let him take the one he was sniffing at. He was totally unsure as if he knew that taking something off the table was wrong (even though we never had to tell him.) So - he looked up at me, I said "ok, go ahead." and he took that bone cookie and ran.

Why tomatoes??
I give my dogs a little left over sauce over their foods some nights that we have spaghetti...

Every 6 months there is a new thing we aren't supposed to eat ourselves or feed our pets....... the list is just getting longer and longer, and I really think eventually people will be too scared to feed/eat most of anything because everything is unhealthy. Organic/raw diets are too expensive for most people today. I grew up on whole cows milk, guess what I buy in my home? Whole cows milk. Am I unhealthy? Not at all the doctor says. It's all about how each person/pet lives, and what works for that person. My animals rarely get table scraps, but I've been known to indulge them once in a while. I guess it's just a personal decision. You wanna treat your pet to a M&M, be prepared if they have a reaction, but most likely they'll be fine. It's like us humans. My son had bad ear infections as a baby, and had penicillan at least twice a year. At age 6 he had a SEVERE allergic reaction. Our bodies (and our pets) pick and choose what's ok, not us. Even if your pet eats the same diet for 10 years doesn't mean they can't have an adverse reaction to it.

I guess I'm old fashioned, I don't hop on ever fade diet or "bad food" train. Remember when the BPA thing came out that baby bottles were filled with chemicals? My friend used the same bottles for her 2 children, and flipped out when those reports came out, taking them from her 3rd child and replacing EVERYTHING plastic in her home......... Hmmmmm your daughter is now 8 months old, and she's never had a problem. She even rushed the baby to the ER freaking out that she had been poisoned. Some things are just blown out of proportion.

(my 2 cents, not trying to start a debate, just stating how I feel

Edited for my bad spelling

I didn't let my 3rd rott eat the linoleum during Chew Phase ... as soon as I heard her tearing at it I made it perfectly clear to her this was not acceptable. This is mainly due to my 2nd rott's fondness for eating carpet and dirty underwear - and rum. Had to be very careful to put rum out of 2nd rott's reach. Although 2nd rott's sister put her to shame by eat half a couch in under 6 hours, according to my friend. Then there was the GSD/Black Lab mix that ate the universal remote - batteries first - in the time it took me to walk to the mailbox and back. I suppose I got lucky as none had any bad effects.

Allright I still have a craving for a chocolate cookie. I really don't know what is so bad about tomato's either. The chooks have hanging (tomato)plants in the run they can only reach when they get ripe enough to, well, reach. The puppy still sleeps about 18 hours a day but he's on some hardcore drugs. He broke his leg when I had a house-sitter come over for a week. He's at the vet at least once a week for check-ups and they tell me any table scraps at all are dangerous. When he looks at me with that puppy face it's hard to resist giving him at least a small piece of cheese, though. Then I think 'dogs are direct decendants of wolves'. He's already eaten a mouse from the barn, a rat from the garage, and the cutest little bunny from the pasture

That's his job. When he brings over the fox that took 3 of my girls away he'll get a prime rib dinner at Hickory House, on the balcony. Maybe I worry too much. Sorry for inciting such a controversial post. P.S. Niether one of us would ever eat a chicken PERIOD

I must have a wierd dog. She wont eat a thing! You give her a treat and she will let it sit around for days. You give her a piece of meat or something and she will just look at you and when you drop it infront of her she lets it sit there. I have tried to reward her with every thing and she will take nothing. Even dog food. You feed her in the morning and she will have a few bites and let it sit the rest of the day. At night I will mix a little wet food into the dry and she will eat a little more but never finishes it. And she only has a cup an a half of food in her bowl at a time. As a puppy she did chew up everything! Part of the couch, our curtains, 2 pairs of my moms glasses and all her reading books, plus part of the firdge and the kitchen table! Now we have a small puppy that will eat anything. We have caught him chewing on rocks and mulch in the backyard. Also pieces of glass (no idea where he found those in our yard) He found a wrench one time and was chewing on that. He has actually eaten marbles, glass, small rocks, wood, and his leash. None of the things ever hurt them and he passed them fine. And now that he is round my dog it has pushed her to eat a little more because if she doesnt then the puppy will go over and empty out her bowl lol. She still wont touch treats though or table food.
