Things That Chicken Eat That Surprised You

Post #27: This is why I tell my DH, "If I fall down dead in the chicken yard, please come get me before the chickens eat me. Or not -- if you want to reduce funeral costs."

I've seen mine eat most of the things listed above; of course, what they REALLY love is macaroni cheese.

Do chickens have a sense of smell? If they are attracted to specific aromas, I would LOVE to market a spray called, "Go Home"....something you can discreetly spray around ankles and feet of those whom just don't take a hint. Send them outside to see the cute chicks. I'd recommend having bags packed and car keys left right next to the door beforehand. Anyone want to join me on this business venture? Perhaps a visit to Shark Tank? Can you just SEE it? Have them all sprayed and let a crate of normally sedate feathered opportunists loose...

pick me! pick me!

I've decided they aren't really chickens, they're ground hawks.

mice, rats, junior gophers, moles, snakes, injured chicks and ducklings, feathers, any sort of left over food, stink bugs, crickets, potato bugs

, magots and fly larva, flies, grasshopers, tree roots (in fact they're diging out a dead tree stump for me right now), millipedes, goat poop, catfood.... especially cat food. my cats are not amused. intimidated, but not amused.

I have seen them catch moles and eat them.

someone mentioned that their chickens wont eat carrots...mine wont either...how wierd, I thought I just had odd chickens.

I watched one of my girls eat a dead baby squirrel that had fallen from the tree- GROSS! We also had a young roo that picked my mom's diamond earrings from her ears and ate them while she was holding him.
