Dr. gave her an injection and eye drops.... Hopefully this works... Cost a lot too ($175.00) ouch!!!!..... But, I'm going to write this vet visit off as a learning experience.....I will update again to let everyone know how the meds work...

If you don't mind, can you post what drugs were given and the amount that was given?

Good on your hen, bad on your wallet. If the vet let you watch the administration of treatment, you now know what to do in the future and save yourself some money. Tylan 50 and Oxine AH are necessities in my barn. Both can be used for a nasal flush and Tylan 50 is very effective against bacterial respiratory issues. There is an injectible as well as a soluble powder added to drinking water.

He gave her a shot in the breast of doxycycline and gave me tobramycin eye drops. I'm not sure what the doxycycline dosage was...... There were 2 syringes though... one in each breast. I definatey learned my lesson. That's why I'm writing this off as "educational". lol I do have tylan and penicilin at home.... According to my sister, a vet tech, aquarium antibiotics are the same... just in pill form and would need to figure out dosage, as with any drug. Fish Doxy (Doxycyline Powder) is $24.99 for 12 100mg packets and the shot my chick got was $75.00...So, go figure....Plan on doing a nasal flush with vet rx when I get home...hopefully it came in the mail....

I was amazed by what you could find for fish... Cipro, Cephalexin, ampicillin, amoxicillin, metronidazole and so many more. Just wish I could find Clavamox! :P

Clavamox is what the vet recommended we use when my peafowl had "raging" gram negative intestinal infections while we were waiting for cultures and sensitivity tests. It was a good call on her part, tests showed e. coli that was sensitive to amoxicillin and a few others.
