Things you remember but that most young folks never heard of. Pre 1980

Napkin sleeves! My Nana made all my clothes. She was really excited when she got an actual sewing machine with electric pedals!

I remember when we got electric typewriters in high school. It was a big deal! We had those little white squares of liquid paper to correct typos.

My dad had one of the first mobile phones for his office. It came with a giant battery in a bag. He had an early laptop too. It must have weighed 100 pounds.

My first computer was a TRS 80 from Radio Shack. I had a dot matrix printer too. The thing sounded like a roomful of angry bees! It was so fancy that folks would pay me to type their papers and print them while I was in college.

Candy cigarettes
Drinking straws before they were made out of plastic- they were waxed paper
the tv 'remote' was attached to the tv by a long cord and that's how you changed channels
the indian head test pattern that showed when tv channels were off the air and the Star Spangled Banner
playing at the end of the channel's broadcasting day. TV was not a 24/7 kinda thing back then
white wall tires
party telephone lines
dial telephones
computers that filled a whole room and had whirling wheels and flashing lights and could do little more than add.
slinkies, light-brights, silly putty, metal lunch pails with thermoses that always smelled like milk no matter how often you washed them
I could go on and on- I love this topic!
and don't even get me started about cartoons.... we'll be here all day!

Carnation Instant breakfast bars

When Nesquick was called Nestle's Quick, or just "Quick". It seemed to blend better then. Any goop that was left at the bottom of the glass was smooth and chocolaty... now it's all grainy.
