Im going to get Barred Rocks.
What should I look for when picking out a Barred Rock?

If you're going to just have two, get two hens. If you absolutely must have fertile eggs to incubate, you'd need a rooster.

Yes, get two hens!... and get two different types. Variety is the spice of life!

Get a barred rock and a leghorn... something that will lay.

Barred rock needs to have nice even barring if it's already all grow'd up. Males will be lighter than females as a general rule.

Wellllllll Im kinda not telling my SO at the moment.

My cousin is coming out today and I was going with her I guess.

The only thing I see with getting 2 diff breeds is when I get my roo wouldnt that be like...making a mutt??
Could that result in...a not so good looking chicken??

See you can blame it all on your cousin. You didn't do this voluntarily of your own volition. YOur cousin is the devil and he/she MADE you do it.

I think 2 barred rock hens would be a great start...for a few days...then add a few more hens. YOu don't have to have a roo for eggs...just if you want to have babies...and then you'll need to get an incubator...or 2 because you will want to have staggered hatches, of course.
