Thinking about a pony for a Christmas present

How pretty he is!

My advice is a small horse. Ponys can be very nasty. I mean there are always the expection but in my own dealings every pony has been mean.

I had a neighbor once get a yearling for their kids , because it was small so they thought it was a great idea

Thank heavens we filled them in before someone was hurt.

HOW DID dd LIKE THE the mini horse ?
i see that DS really likes him!!!
that is a very nice looking mini horse.
I think u did good by getting a mini instead of a pony . ponies can have a nasty temper sometimes , i like minis much better , and if he gets to small for your kids , you can get a mini cart or a buckboard for them .
driving is way easier than riding and less physical !!!!
P{S, meaning no sore legs !!!!

DD loves him but is a little cautious...she got a rough nuzzle from him right off the bat that knocked her down so is a little scared to get too cozy with him. She brushes him and makes "presents" for him...necklaces and such. Way too funny!

He's fuzzy from being outside in the cold so he looks kind of funny with the winter coat. He'll clean up better in the summer. He could use a trip to the farrier too.

And yes, this little guy does have driving experience! So now I have my eyes open for a cart and harness so we can take him on trips to grandma's and auntie's...both about a mile away.

i had my daughter riding a pony/horse since she was 6 months old now she is a great rider now

I know it was mentioned before, but be sure to take heed...no grain (maybe a handful here or there

) and be sure to watch the grass intake, as ponies are very prone to "founder". Consider a grazing muzzle if you have grassy pastures. It allows them to still graze but at a slower rate. We have a small pony along with our large horses and really have to be careful with him. Our vet always says "The question is not IF a pony is going to founder in his lifetime, but the question is really WHEN is he going to founder." And he is only half joking!

Enjoy! Our kids have enjoyed their pony and now that they are outgrowing him I got a cart and harness and have enjoyed driving him around.
