Hey all!
I am thinking about buying some chickens from a local man. a pair of blue cochins, trio bantam white, silver laced hen, birchen roo all for $50.....what do you think? Is it a good deal? I really want to focus on cochins and silkies for breeding...so I am very interested. I know that all are under 1.5 years old.

All are cochins...forgot to mention that.

sounds like a very fair price for buying that many hens this time of year.

As long as you like the quality of the birds, go for it.

Ya know, I used to think that too, but after getting some OEGB about 15 years ago, I wouldn't trade them for the world. They are the greatest barnyard scavengers and have severely cut down on the fly and mouse population because they pick through all the horse manure and all the grain dropped by the horses. I think they pull their weight just as much as anyone!

MNKris, I was wondering about the fly population being affected. I hope so. I know Millie loves going out to help me feed my horses and hangs out with them during the day. As soon as these guys are big enough, they'll be out there too.
