Thinking about doing something

While leafing through a catalogue from a hatchery they had a thing where they would send you a free chick and any eggs gotten from that bird( hen) or meat from the processed chicken ( rooster) would go to a needy family.

In the spring when I order new chicks ( or hatch them if the some one decides to go broody) I was thinking about putting two or three of them by themselves and any eggs or meat donating to a needy family...

Does any body else do this? or want to do this come spring with me?

I want to say it was Meyers but I will check for sure today.

I was not going to necessarily order from them but just thought of doing it with where every I get my chicks from.

Whenever I have an extra dozen eggs or extra vegetables from my garden I just take them to my local food bank. Most of the food in the food banks are generally packaged and fresh eggs and produce is really appreciated.

I love this idea!!! We are definitely going to have extras even after we sell to a few regular families once our girls get going. We also have a local food bank, and I will be sending a few dozen their way each month! Thanks for the inspiration!

I think it is a sweet idea, but really? You are going to drive one egg a day to the food bank?

I do donate extra eggs and extra fruit. In large enough batches to make it worth my time.

Maybe it would make more sense to set aside one day a month and everything laid on that day gets taken to the food bank, or the soup kitchen, or donated to someone you know who has lost their job, or handed out to people in the unemployment office line.

I had no plans on driving daily to a food bank.

I was thinking to gather the eggs for a week or so and then drop them off. Same with if they ended up being roos. Butching them all on the same day and doing a drop off.

It seems to me that the general idea of the offer is to get people at least thinking about helping to feed their less fortunate neighbors.
Mission accomplished.
