Thinking about getting a cockatiel soon...

Cockatiels make great pets. We have 4 I hand reared, two boys and two girls, and they all have very unique personalities. They need lots of toys they can chew on and destroy. They are messy but so cute you'll never be mad at them. Your baby may preen you not realising that human skin is a lot more sensitive than feathers. Try not to react (difficult if it's your nostril being squeezed!) and push towards them to make them let go.

Check out 'chop' - such an easy way to add variety to their diet.

Some birds handle moving house better than others. Let your bird have as much time as they need to adjust to their new home and new family and happily come out of their cage. Never grab them and make them come out or chase them with your hand to force them to step up as you will make them afraid of hands. Remember they are only babies and they've just left their whole flock and the only home they've ever known. Some won't bat an eyelid and settle in instantly. At the other extreme some may take a few weeks to settle in and feel confident enough to step up. Millet is your best friend here!
