Thinking about getting a rooster... Help me decide.

Yes, my first rooster, kind of a rescue, was a buff Brahma bantam. He was the same size as my brown leghorns, but I learned that he was also able to "connect" with my Barred Rocks. Don't know how he did it, probably graduated from Rooster University.

I truly think a rooster makes a difference in the little hen squabbles and politics of the flock. Just one of my personal experiences.

Okay, this gives me the courage to say something. But, first I have to admit to once having a Sebright rooster with my flock of standards, also. Hahaha

!

My roosters were all different breeds from my hens. Since I wasn't worried about hatching chicks, this just gave me more variety and I could have some very pretty birds.

The Hamburg was a very pretty rooster. Probably weighing less than 5 pounds, he was just over half the weight of my frumpy, dumpy hens (the kind I prefer

).

There wasn't a remarkable contrast in the appearance of the flock (not like with that Sebright, hahaha . . . uh, sorry! I loved him. [wiping tears from my eyes

]). The Hamburg was so upright and attractive, he "stood out" from the hens real well. And, he was a gentleman.

I've little doubt that there were fertile eggs, also, if that would matter.
