Thinking about getting ducks....have a few questions

Check with your town/county regs.
I live in a rural area but still not allowed to house the ducks under my deck. We have to keep them so many feet away from the house. And, quite frankly, though I clean the pen daily, there is just enough of that "ducky smell" that I wouldn't want them under there. Especially since our sliding door is just above that area and would let the scent waft in.

Once upon a time it was grass, which lasted about 2 weeks
Now I put a layer of Stall Dry, then DE all topped with mulch. I rake this daily just to break up the poop. Tried straw but that was hellish to keep clean & dry. I don't really want pea gravel. (I'd rather deal with poop than bumblefoot). If worse comes to worst, I'll pave the pen and hose it out daily with a corner box with straw for sleeping.
