Thinking About Getting Ducks, Looking For Advice Please!

I don't think anyone would have a duck specific feed. It would be an all flock or game bird feed.

That's actually true. Now that I think about it. You know Mazuri's? I had always thought of it as sort of a safety net, you know? The one place that makes duck feed. Only, I'm pretty sure that their food is for generalized waterfowl. Hmm...

@ChickenCanoe - Ok, thanks and thanks for your other post too. I just realized I forgot to reply to it. Sorry! I just meant I was looking for food that wasn't formulated for chickens. Guess I should expect that living in a state the locals call the chicken capital of the US lol.

@QuackSpeak - Correction, I have two dogs, two cats and a snake. Don't worry, the ducks won't be food for the snake lol. Really, my pets are one dog, a cat and the snake. The other cat is my mom's and the other dog is a family pet lol. I only mentioned the one because he's the only one allowed in my room. Wow, sorry you guys have all those allergies, thats like a pet-lover's nightmare! At least you found ducks to be a pet that you can all love c:

Correction: Except for my brother, who is allergic to goose down and so is allergic to ducks too, maybe. Anyways, my parents aren't taking chances, so now I have to do all the hard labor. I don't really mind it; that's the way it has been for most of our pets. Of course he loves them, but a lot of times I'm the one putting in the work. (This is why the ducks are in my room, not his...)

@QuackSpeak - Haha who says that's a bad thing?? You get all the ducks to yourself then :b

My thoughts exactly!

Also, I'm thinking of 'training' the ducklings. I know that ducks aren't stupid; Aye and Orrun figured out how to do many things for food. But it was never really standardized, you know? They came when we whistled, and went to bed when it was time. But, after reading some old threads, I'm thinking of some ideas that may/may not work.
Like they could 'Come,' when we say a phrase, and tap our hands when we tell them to, etc.
No I'm not crazy!

...
Yeah. The Delmarva region. GA and the MO/AR regions are like that too.

@QuackSpeak - Not a bad idea at all! I've thought of doing some stuff like that as well. I was at least gonna teach some of mine to walk on harnesses so we could take them places. That's mainly why I only wanted a few to begin with, it would be way easier to take two ducks instead of eight!

I wanted harnesses too! Originally, we were going to get two instead of three. I wanted a WH and a Cayuga, and then my brother said he wanted a Blue Swedish, and we couldn't agree; boring sibling rivalry junk. So then we decided to get three.
I'm not sure where we would take them that's duck friendly but not dog friendly, you know? So I'm not sure. Harnesses may be in the near future

And ever since I learned that ducks could learn words, the idea has enthralled me. Come, Sit, Tap, Bedtime. I've witnessed first hand what ducks will do for tricks (Come running across a road and up a hill at the sound of a whistled tune, because that whistle meant Grapes!!), and I think it's possible.

@QuackSpeak - Haha that's better than one crazy grandma that tells you to get them all, haha!

I know Lowes and TSC is pet friendly (of course that means people can bring their dogs). But what if they rode in the cart? I guess that would defeat the purpose of the harness but still. It's a very rare treat for me to run into dogs at those places anyway. I suppose we could take 'em to Hudson's lol. When I was a kid we used to dress my grandmother's miniature horses like reindeer and give cart rides to kids around Christmas time there.

Yeah, they are pretty smart! I'd be interested to know what kind of "tricks" you come up with!

Lol! So you're getting every color?

I was thinking of maybe taking them around the neighborhood? We live a couple of minutes away from a small, manmade pond. It looks sort of weird though. Like there's only 5-6 inches of water in it, and pipes come out of it. It might be sewage
