thinking about getting more chicks.

I just received 26 RIR pullets from MT. HEALTHY last week, I had never tried them before, they have several different breeds they hatch year round, you can order as few as 15. I am very satisfied with their customer service. I live in Kentucky so it was close, they are in Ohio, so it only took 1 day to ship them. I really like purchasing baby chicks in the fall.

WHAT!!!!

More chicks? Don't you know that this is an addiction? Get out while you can

I'm in so deep I cant see the light of day, and lovin it!

Sorry I can't help on a Hatchery, I order eggs to hatch. My friend uses MPC and says it's pretty good. Good luck on finding what your looking for

My Pet Chicken fulfills their orders through Meyer. So its six of one, half a dozen of the other...

I've heard great things about Mt. Healthy's chicks but haven't ordered from anyone besides Meyer/MPC. You might have trouble getting particular breeds at this point if you're not going super average, but you might get a fun mix from a layer assortment.

I got mine from My pet chicken. And all were alive and well. There four weeks old know. They do cost a good amount but I'm a kid and I was able to come up with the money. Not to mention the feed cost. LOL

I ordered 3 Welsh Harlequin ducklings, six weeks old now, and 4 chicks all five weeks old now (Barred Rock, Buff Orphington, and 2 Rhode Island Reds) from California Hatchery.com. Very pleased with all of them upon arrival...they are very healthy and living together in coop. I did the hatchery thing because I wanted to make sure all my new babies were females...you pay a bit more, but it was worth it. Local feed mill had chicks but couldn't guarantee the sex and no ducklings. The hatchery wanted ducklings to be ordered in 3's which I did...if I had pushed it I could have gotten two...but now that I have them, I wouldn't have it any other way...they stay together, lay together and if anything every happened to one of them, at least there would be two to stay together.

I want chicks in the spring so bad!
But i don't know if i should hatch eggs or just get chicks!

I would prefer only females, but not many places but "my pet chicken" can sex bantams.
I also don't have too much more space in the coop so i don't think most minimums are ideal for me.
Plus then i have to worry whether my broody would except them (i would prefer them to be raised by a mommy hen)

With eggs i can pick how many i would like to hatch so i have the space and they can be raised by a broody, but then i may get males!
I would most likely sell the males, but i wouldn't know where to put them before then @_@.
I don't like to kill or eat my chickens so i have a fear of being stuck with all these cockerels that don't get along and that i don't have space for!!!

Then i find some hatchery's that let me have a minimum of like 4 bantams which is perfect but then they don't sex them... ack!

What to do...

I love so many breeds i can't decide! I want either showgirls (which hatchery's don't sell), Japanese, silkies, or polish.....maybe even bantam barred rocks or wyandottes.
I just found out i have a blue silkie cockerel and if i'm able to keep him, i'd like to hatch out some chicks...but once again then i risk getting males

I'm really excited because this would be my first time hatching or raising chicks in years!

I keep trying to convince myself i can get away with having more but i keep fighting with my practical side!
Lets face it i wouldn't want to cramp them so i have to make sure i don't get to many! darn this chicken math!
Chickens are wayyy to addicting!

P.S do people on BYC share orders?
Some places have a minimum of like 15 and i don't want that many, but maybe they are the only hatchery that sells that specific breed!
Do people split orders? Maybe i can find someone in CT to split chicks with me
