thinking about getting some ducks?

They most likely will not fly away but they will be easy pickings for most predators because they can't fly.

Not many breeds fly. So it would depend on what you got. A lake is not a safe area for ducks to live. All kinds of predators there. They will need a secure house, just like chickens.

We have a "duck box" with a small run attached. Duck boxes are simple if you aren't going to have many but I'm sure you could have a large duck box too. Either way our duck box is about the size of a large dog house, Nesting box in the back corner (we just have two babies). Top pops totally up and the door is rough cut to ducky size. We can prop open the top to ventilate the box and we just scoop the old litter out and put new in. We have a small tub for them. We had ducks last year but they were wild call ducks that we just took care of until they flew off. Unless you get one of those, you won't have a flight issue. Ours even came back to our old house...OOPS! Most ducks will stick around where there is food and safety. A kids swimming pool is plenty for them too. As long as they can dunk themselves, they are happy. I will say this, as babies, they stink and make messes galore! Well they don't stink but their messes do. They will play in the waterers and as soon as you clean their shavings they go play in the water and splash everywhere!
Be sure to really be hands on with them as ducklings or you'll have shy ducks
