Is a rooster worth it?

Don't be too sure, I have 2 breeds I got straight run and the only male I see so far is a cull with the wrong comb
Ok, just one of the silkies (a black one) already has a fairly big comb and weighs more than the others. Though I know it is really hard to tell the difference, especially at such a young age!

I have an EE rooster. He is really nice to me and my sister, but he is evil to my dad and brother, even if they have rakes. I am fine with that because my sister and I are the ones that take care of them anyways. I recently put 5 eggs into the incubator. We have one rooster to 13 hens and all the eggs are fertile. So...I love having a rooster. He does protect the hens, and because we have hawks here, its good to have him around.
by "evil" I just mean that he will peck them, but I personally believe that it is because my dad and brother get to close to him and are scaring him, because they use rakes against him.

When people say they aren't too aggressive, how aggressive does that really mean? Will he still run and attack you, or not?

Not aggressive at all. Not at ALL.

They can be calm and respectful or they can be treated with herbal hydrotherapy.

I'd love to have one but unfortunately I live in a suburb so noise would be a problem.

I was fortunate with my in-town rooster.

One neighbor grew up on a farm and liked the sound. The other figured that if we didn't mind their muscle car they didn't mind our rooster.
