Thinking about leaving SoCal

I am a true Georgia girl. love this state, laid back, friendly, and beautiful. The only thing is where i live we are lucky to get any snow, i live more south georgia. we did get some this year, but it lasted about 1/2 a day. the summers are very hot and humid (90 to 100 on average). Now North Georgia, up near North Carolina and TN, may be different.

If you ask me Chickensioux made North Carolina a place I want to go live.

Kentucky, what a gorgeous state.
Believe it or not we drove through Kansas, and was very impressed with the eastern side of the state, the western side got a little flat and not too many trees.

Good luck where ever you decide, sounds like where ever you land you are going to make it the perfect home place. Sorry to hear about your accident. I'll pray for you and your family.

Southwest VA is gorgeous and property taxes are practically nil.

In western NY, we paid 3000.00 a year for a 110,000. property. Here we pay 287.00 a year for a 107,000 property.

Snow comes for about 2 months in spits and spurts and the rest of the year is moderate with a couple super warm weeks in July.

Seems like most people love their own state...that explains why we live here! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Texas...but then, what Texan doesn't love Texas? You probably wouldn't love the Houston area...however...

My Dad lives in the Austin/Hill Country area of Texas, and a lot of Californians have relocated there because the prices are so much better. It is so hilly and beautiful...awesome lakes, caves, natural pools, etc. Not much snow, though, unless you go a little further north than Austin.

IF you decide on NC stay away from the south eastern part. Many people love the sandhills but I don't and I grew up here.

The mountains and northern region of the state are beautiful. Mt Airy is my dream town to live in. The people are so friendly and the area is beautiful.

As far as having four seasons, I have spent time in western Iowa so I have lived where the winters are cold . To me, my region of NC does not have four seasons. It has hot and humid(summer), less hot(fall and spring ) and periods of wet, coldness interspersed with warmth for the winter.

I think that the other regions of NC do have colder winters, just not as cold as Iowa.

The most beautiful place that I have ever lived was Spokane, Washington but I don't see our family being able to move back there.

Hubby and I think about moving to Texas. The only thing stopping us is the religion factor. We are plenty conservative fiscally for that state, but we are atheists

I escaped WIsconsin when I was 19. Beautiful to visit, but I HATED living there. Mosquitos in summer, -30º temps in Winter, blood suckers in the water, wood ticks....

I'm sorry you feel that way, I have a very simple policy when it comes to others. I am living my life, and they are living theirs. I don't want anyone to tell me how to live mine, so I treat others the way I want to be treated.

You seem to be describing east Tennessee or Kentucky. I love Georgia but what you are asking for is not here. We still have bad race issues an I would not call people knocking at the door on Sundays staying out of my religious business. An even tho we treat outsiders who visit very well I don't thing outsiders that live here ever feel truly at home.

Anyplace in the South will do you fine, Saddi. Well, the deep South doesn't have much of a winter, so I'd stay more in the upper South. People are polite and you'll have some toothless beer-drinkin' neighbors, but they'll always be willing to pull you out of the mud.

I live in the Bible Belt, so you'll always have people coming up to you and asking you if you're saved. I just smile and say "Of course." It's best not to argue.
