Thinking about raising 1 Guinea with chickens!

Hello guinea lovers!

I was fascinated as a child by the Guineas on my grandmother's farm, but they were always far away and usually sleeping high in the trees at night!

Recently (ok, this week), I decided I had to have 25 more bantams and a friend asked me to add 6 guineas to the order.

SO, I added 1 more guinea to the order and my plan is to raise it with the chicks and hope

it turns out quiet like a chicken, since it won't ever be around another guinea.


Has anyone tried this?

Any feedback or comments would be appreciated!

I have never tried this but I have always heard that guineas are very social and like to be with other guineas. So I don't know if your one guinea will be happy with chickens only. It would probably be better to get the 6.

My friend added 6 to my bantam order, so I added 1 for a total of 7.

I have a backup plan, if the lone guinea I have looks unhappy, she will take it and put it with her 6.

I'm recently raising 4 chicken with 10 guineas. Think they are more layed back then the 6 I raised b thenselfe and then added to the chicken

the females Buck Wheat constantly.... If your lone Guinea is a male he will only Chi Chi Chi if he has something to say ..... They usually let the females do the talking.....

I got the Guinea this morning! It arrived safely and is very happy and healthy. My friend wanted 6, so I had to pick one out of the 7.

Of course, I picked the odd one, the white keet!

And into BANTY-LAND!

The Guinea seems to be getting along nicely with the bantams and is a similar size! I can tell it apart for now because it is whiter and has a black dot on the back of its head. I am sure as it matures, I will have no problem telling it apart from the bantams!

It does seem to have better posture than the other Guineas, especially now that it is in with the bantams! It is walking tall!

Hi Guinea people.

I am the friend and I am a new guinea owner too!

I wish I wasn't going camping this weekend so I could watch all the fun, but thankfully I have a good keet sitter. Can't wait until Sunday afternoon when I get to go visit them!

They Grow twice as fast (I think) as the chickletts. I know you are probably not feeding Game bird starter with all those chicks. Keets need higher protein because of their incredible growth rate. between 25 and 30 percent if you can. An option is to supplement with scrambled eggs cooked till they are dry. The chicks will like it too. Zazouse makes a ball out of the eggs and covers it with a little chick food. Cook em in a non stick pan till they are dry then scoop into a small cup or glass till they cool and they will stay in the shape of the cup. She cooks em till they are dry so they dont plug up little nose holes.....

Hey they lived off egg for the past 28 or so days.... But its important right now because Guineas do grow faster at first.

Hey I hope you are feeding game bird starter for your little ones. I bought a fifty pound bag and surprisingly they will eat it all before they are ready to go on big bird rations. My eleven keets went through 100 lbs in the first four weeks. (of course they used quite a bit for bedding....ahem... Enthusiastic dining practices)

I have baby turkeys too so I think that Purina Flock Raiser should be a good food for guineas. I give it to my ducks and turkeys and geese as they need high protein too. If not I can get some game bird starter.
