I have 9 embdens and the only time they are loud is when they see a dog or other intruder, otherwise they pretty much keep to themselves.Make sure you handle them as babies or else they can be sour puss' as adults, they are very strong birds, and if there is more than one male per three girls you will have fights.

I live in New Orleans, in the city. Im working on moving out to the country. From experince I would say do not get any of the medium or large size geese. They will HONK very loud. I dont know how much space you have but we have almost none here and my 4 American blue geese are mostly quite, however when I let them out in the am they will HONK nonstop for about 2min and can be heard a good block and a half away. Then at night when I go out to put them up around 5 they HONK like mad for about 2 min when they see me. I dont plan to keep mine here, like I said im trying to find a place in the country. If you plan to keep yours in the city I would think twice about the size and niose level.

I have a toulouse is she is relatively quiet. Her honks aren't that loud and she only really honks when we let her out in the morning or when we let the dogs out in the yard (this makes her angry).
I think that romans and pilgrims seem to be the most quietest, I was planning on getting a roman but they sent me a toulouse by mistake. I did a lot of research when we were getting geese because I wanted a quiet goose and everyone seemed to recommend pilgrims or romans. The romans are one of the smallest geese so those would work well in limited space. You might want to avoid getting a gander though because they can get loud. Based on what ive seen, most geese are about the same noise level except for africans and chinese, those ones are really noisy.
The good thing about geese is when they start honking the neighbors don't always know what the noise is coming from.
