Beware of pre-fab coops as the others have said... There are folks out there who build coops well, but they are pricey. As for breeds, I started with non-industrial leghorns, a couple Morans, Delaware, Rhode Island White and Barred Holland and one silver spangled hamburg. I'm focusing my breeding program on the RIW and BH as I like their size, temperament, ability to forage, etc. DW is a fan of the Morans, but they aren't endangered.
