Thinking of putting Fairy lights in my Coop

I have only one extension cord to the de-icer as well. I tried some solar fairy lights, which I already had, but we don't have enough sun to run them on cloudy days at all.

Then I found some battery-powered (3 AAs) white LED Christmas lights at Home depot $6 each string, so I cbought 5 strings, and that has worked quite well.

If your coop is smaller and light inside you should only need 2 strands to make it bright enough to see. I left one strand on continuously 24/7 and it was 2 weeks before the batteries died.

I use rechargeable batteries in it.

The bonus is that from the light they get under 5 strands of these light run from 4 to 9 pm, they lay eggs in the winter as well.

If you can't find these lights in a store, I'm sure you could find some online. The brand listed on the package was "Home Accents".

Good luck

I use a C9 set of Christmas lights from Walmart. They are on a timer and they are the old fashion style so they create warmth as well. A huge hello to Erie Pa poster. I'm from Meadville and have many old friends at Lake Erie Christian Fellowship.

I put a solar powered motion detector outside the coop to detract predators, but it didn't do a very good job, so I put it in the coop. It has been helpful on the very dark days after I put tarps over the outer fenced area to keep the wind out. I'm sure the chickens don't need it but it makes me feel better. I started off putting food and water in the coop but read that chickens won't eat in the dark plus it made a mess. I let them out at dawn and close them up at dusk.

What ever type of light you use, you will get more eggs.
I still get about 7 per day from my 9 Buff Orps.
Other folks in the area who do not light their birds are getting two or none per day.

Hello to Oregon, is it as cold there as Erie? Meadville isn't bad but in Corry they can't even move the white stuff with plows, they are using front end loaders! Corry has had over 6ft already this year.
