thinking of switching to bantams

because i couldn't stand the pecking and shoving of my current hens at night, my 7 roosting poles are all at the same height, 18"+ apart. i'm a little nervous about the flying thing. they will wander around on the ground, right? we have an 18x24x12' tall chicken run that has an enclosed roof; during the summer we open a shady side run during the day that has netting over the top but that's only about 5' tall. we put several large tree limbs planted in the ground and supported with wire to create roosting areas, but the sweet girls we have were too large and didn't like going 7' up in the air - rooster likes it in the a.m. though! (i reminded my husband we were raising chickens not monkeys - so we named our run the chickenasium) i guess this should work for bantams if they want to fly up. not too worried about egg size - with 6 layers now we have lots of eggs for 2 people... what about dogs and bantams? my airedale has gotten used to the bigger girls and likes to follow them around the yard. are bantams real skittish about that? all of you are so helpful with your advice - thanks again!
