Thinking of the neighbors

i suggest having the coop look as much as a shed a possible and nor so much like a coop, that what we did and from the road its just a shed. we also used green wire fencing for the run so it blends right into the greenery. planting honeysuckle and jasmine will help cover any smells. also have a bunch of ventilation so that their is no odors. our coop has big open windows so their is never a smell for the neighbors. and of coarse give them plenty of eggs

Welcome aboard. Nobody mentioned this yet, but most places have a "grandfather clause". If you have this, you *should* be able to build without being 50' away from a residence that is yet to be built. If they build, say 35' from your coop, that becomes their problem, not yours. Good luck.
