Ok.. so atm, i have 4 ducks and 3 drakes.. and one unconfirmed turning 5wk old, which has been told it is a duck or surgery will be performed

Anyhow, in all seriousness.. my ratio's are skewed to say the least, I do have several eggs due to hatch this week.. we're talking more than a dozen.. probably closer to 15? by two ducks BUT how many i'll get, how many will live and whether they will give ducks is all clearly .. a crap shoot.

Sigh, so if i don't get what i need from the girls, what can i add for breeds? These are all Muscovy but i am seriously considering adding some ducks of a differing breed for variety and the ease of being able to locate the other breeds Muscovy around here even more-so ducks are super hard to get..

So what can I consider? being there are drakes nothing to petite obviously, i wouldn't say my 'scovie girls are super big but still..

I'm just backing up my plans at this point perhaps by some miracle i'll get a couple of ducks, they live and all will be on it's merry little way... yes, fairy tales are good don't ya think?

Seperate housing unless you want the eggs from the new breed to hatch infertile mules thanks to your Scovy drakes.

Silver Appleyards, WH, Pekin to name a few are larger birds as well. I would still keep the, seperate though from the Scovy, those claws are are sharp.

I separate the drakes from the ducks at night but during the day they all free range together, so perhaps its best i just stick with 'scovies then.

Yep, of you want pure breds, but don't want seperate housing and daytime areas, one breed is best.

Currently all of our ducks are together again, this gives them lots of space a d summer time fun. Will seperate them again down the road to pull pure bred eggs again. It's nice to let them just be ducks part of the year though.

Don't think i will be going down the breeding route again though... it really isn't a role i want to take on again.
