Great!! I'm glad you could to make it - BF told me which one you were - thanks for coming! We'll try for more 'vendors' in the spring!

Silly Stunt - Did you mean all the BR's are roos, or all the ones you listed are roo's?

Is ok, all I wanted was to show my DF your coop and your girls...she still "on the fence" lol...but your cute 3 chicks I think helped me out! lol

just the BR's. The RIR & leghorns have some pullets & cockerals.

Oh I wanted to come but could not find out where it was a friend mentioned seeing a flyer at the pet store by the time I got there it was gone. I too am a BYC person actually not far from you. I had heard there was a five chicken rule also, but when I looked it up the City of St. Petersburg actually did not have a number there. If there is really a five chicken rule I am in trouble. Luckily all my neighbors forbid me to get rid of my roosters. And well my girls are great. I have a variety barred rock, buff, blue Jersey giant, black jersey giant, white plymouth rock, americauna, speckled sussex, oh and the rest I am not sure.

lacoursel, just wanted to say

Juan - glad I could help!! Bring her by sometime when I have the newly hatched ones - those are irresistable!

Silly Stunt - Great - I'll let my friend know. I told him Leghorns are some of my favorties.

lacoursel - Someone took my sign down?! I'm sorry you didn't know where to go! You are correct - the five chicken rule is the rule for Tampa. Don't know where that rumor started. No roosters allowed, and technically the coop is supposed to be 100 feet from you neighbor's houses, unless you have written permission. But who is really going around measuring?...... Keep on eye on the Florida swap thread and I'll post again in the spirng for another one. As long as I can get some folks here with more CHICKENS this time.

Seriously - we can't have roosters here. So we can't breed our own. You WILL sell your chicks. The pet store here has sold out of theirs multiple times, and they are asking $7 a bird - for hatchery ones!! Sexed ones - but still!!

I sold my two Blue Plymouth Rock pullets and gave the two roo's to the people that bought them, just to keep the girls company for now. Somehow we ended up with pigeons........

Not sure if we can post businesses names, but everyone I bought from pet store up the street turned out to be roosters. Luckily I have some friends who were able to take them. I got two laying hens from Largo feed they were just babies. Then I got a couple from Largo Fowl mom. She is great if you have kids. She has pigs, goats, and every bird possible so it is an experience. Then the most fun was ordering in the mail from MY pet chicken. I shared those with friends. I am glad i can talk chicken with someone. It was the pet store that started the rumor I think cause she lives in Gulfport and they are only allowed to have five. I will probably just drive by and see your coop. I Teach at SPHS and the construction tech class built me an A-Frame tractor coop for a project last year. Stop by any time and see mine. I also have a small pot belly pig. 1080 22 Ave N.

lacoursel - NO WAY! I'm a Social Worker at Gibbs! (I do what Debborah G. does with the teen moms) I would love for you to stop by and see my ramshackle coop. I have friends coming over this afternoon to see the chickens, so I'll be home if you want to stop by. PM me. I haven't made it up to Fowl Mom's - not sure how she does it in the city, since roosters aren't allowed anywhere in Pinellas. I'll have to take my son to her place sometime. And yes, the pet store is where I first heard that, and I was trying to stick with that limit - but was already over by two by the time I realized it didn't even apply!

Because one got out and was sitting in my tree. He said we could probably catch it if we put seed and water on the ground. I asked if they were social, like most birds, and he gave me one to have to keep the one in the tree company when we caught it. Put it in a cage, and when I went to put water in, it flew off. He gave us another one. Then after hours of waiting for the one in the tree to come down, it suddenly took off, circled around the house a few times, and disapeared. Sigh. So now BF and his younger daughter are on their way to Spring Hill to get another pigeon to keep the only one we managed to hang on to company.

But they are really neat. Really pretty, and if you let them go even 300 miles away they will come back home. I gues this afternoon I will be building a little pigeon addition into the coop......
