Okay, peeps. Yesterday evening I drank way too much ice tea too late in the day, and as I lay awake tossing and turning, I decided something. I want to incorporate a fundraiser for the victims of the tragedy in Japan into my swap. I actually spent half my childhood in Japan with my family, and I have so many wonderful memories of this amazing country and it's people. I cannot watch the news more than a few times in a week right now - seeing the destruction is just too heart breaking. I owe them in part for who I am now, and it was also where I had my first flock of chickens and three little quail.
SO the other memory that came back - and it's a bit of a fuzzy one for reasons we will not discuss
- was of a night in a beach bar in Belize shortly after college. We played what can only be described as "chicken poop bingo". I placed one of my precious just-out-of-college dollars on a number cooresponding to a square on the ground. Then a guy let a chicken wander around the squares and wherever it pooped was the winning number.
I've seen it done with cows up north, too. We will stick with one of my chickens, Ebony. $2 a square, we'll play however many times people want to. I'll come up with a fabulous prize - maybe I'll ask the feed store or some place for a donation.
I will also buy some sodas and water to have on hand and just take donations for those, as well as whatever I get for fresh eggs I from the girls. Plus whatever I make from the chicks I sell for Martin Farms goes into the pot.
Can't wait for the swap! See you all then!
