Awesome Article...but chics, hmmm they kinda gave your "5 birds" violation away! hahahaha

Hey Nava,

I will come up and introduce myself next time we are at the same swap. I was the one in a pink t-shirt (I Bait My Own Hook) with my husband in a grey tshirt). We did stop by your display and checked out your chickens and spoke with you husband(?) Your have beautiful birds and the pics in the paper of you are GREAT!

See you next time.

Hi Nava...
I'm the one that bought your Khaki Campbell female duck...she was sooo nervous on the car ride home (silly me...who goes to a swap and doesn't bring a carrier?! I THOUGHT it would prevent me from bringing home any birds...apparently not...HA!
smile.png
I held her the entire 15 minutes to the barn (her new home), and she was good, but I could tell she wasn't particularly happy...as soon as we got out of the car, she started calling to the other ducks on the property when she saw them, and did her best to get out of my arms...lol...they came across the pond at her as soon as they heard her...She did really well when I released her into the group...she immediately made a beeline for another brown duck (I have NO IDEA what breed he was...he had a tuft of feathers or a poof on his head...his mate was NOT happy, but allowed the Khaki Campbell to be there...the pekins didn't want anything to do with her, but she settled right in with the others...an occasional peck here or there when she got to close, but I would expect that much...in a matter of minutes she was splashing around and such with the others...I forgot to take a pic, but will try to get one and post it...but the end of the day when I left, I peeked in on her again, and she was resting on land in a group of the brown poofy headed ducks...made me VERY happy that she has friends again!!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention...I came home with my first 3 chickens!!! I got 2 silkie/Polish mixes, and a Gold Laced Cochin (my favorite!)...they are the funniest little things...totally NOT what I went there to look at, but I'm so glad I got them..they are a hoot! I brought them to the barn with me today, so they could free range where I know they would find something tasty to eat...my horse gave me looks when I held the little cochin up to her...she sniffed her and then licked her....lol...she kept leaning over watching us as I let the chicks scratch around the outside of her stall where she drops her food and I store her bedding...they had an absolute blast eating everything that moved when I moved the shavings bags...i swear I could watch them for hours if I had the time...

For the time being, they are in an extra large dog kennel in the house, and will get daily outings outside in the sunshine as often as I can give them until I can get my outside coop built...and I'm also looking to add a few RIR pullets around the same age as them...even open to a white leghorn or two if anyone local has them...I believe my chicks right now are btwn 4-6 weeks of age, so I'd really like to get something in the same age range if possible...
