Hi last summer we incubated for the first time. All with postal eggs. We got 5 out of the first 12 but 2 died. We have a beautiful cream crested legbar and a legbar/marans cross. Also a blue French copper marans whose going through an identity crisis. Stopped laying and started crowing. She has a sister who died and we had to cull 2 cockerels.
Out of 24 eggs we ended up with 3. Swore I’d never do it again but with our lovely Morag off laying and not sure what’s up with her (no one much responded on the thread where I asked for advice- but she seems well and happy and is doing a good job being a lookout chicken so we’re just letting her be. ) and in lockdown and can’t see my friends or family I decided chikkies would make it better . I hope I learnt stuff from last two attempts. I won’t interfere. I rescued two. They were the cockerels! I am laying out 6 Buff Orpington eggs. Hoping for a 50 % hatch which I got last time dry incubating. For first time I’m trying all same breed as other twice they were all different and realise that maybe wasn’t ideal at all. Just wanted a place to share and talk and get advice again.
