Third (very successful) Quail hatch

I use the flattened marbles, too. The babies tend to traipse right through the water, and it helps minimize how wet they get. Instead of plopping down into the water well on their way through they walk across the marbles. Less chance of a soaking / chilling.

What is it that you've used on the sides there? That looks like metallic fabric. or plastic. Is it an emergency blanket or window wrap? I'm assuming it is to reflect heat and light back into the enclosure, instead of having it soak into the sides of the plastic tub.

We got the reflective bubble wrap insulation from Pet's Mart. They use it to wrap the fish in for shipment. They were going to throw out a box of it so we asked if we could have it. They were plenty glad to give it away. It really holds the heat in on these plastic tubs. We also got so much that we dont mind throwing it out if it gets too much to wash it.

Out Pet's Mart gets fish in on Friday so if we need more they said come on in. LOL

Only problem I see is this: I want to start raising quail for food, and those little critters are so cute that my wife is gonna squawk if I start pulling their heads off, even after they are all growed up!!!! I've got to find something ugly to raise. What do Naked Neck chickens look like when they are little?

I am one of those animal loving crazy people. My husband and some friends decided to start processing quail. I tell you it took me about 10 or 15 in before I started processing myself. Really as adults they are very pretty and I do have a few female favorites that are great layers. But the reality was, it wasn't gruesome. We cut the heads clean off and it was over no suffering. I was able to rationalize this before getting too deep. I hope you can get the wife to also! Now I still dont think I could process a pig, or something larger. I might get there some day. PLUS!!! I get great egg layers and we can hatch babies all we want! SO I constantly have some cuties in the house!

Ugly? Try alligators or politicians.

Just warning you, though. The alligators are probably better tempered.
