A Muscovy Duckling with Thin, Silky Down???

This baby has had a couple bald spots since hatch but one was from me cleaning egg shell off it after hatching. It got it's first bath last night and this is what it looked like afterward!! I also noticed that it's ENTIRE belly is BALD, like it just didn't grow down?? and it's very chubby, more so than my other scovy babies(that i remember anyway). The baby down felt silky soft after it dried last night and this morning, it's very strange compared to my other babies that have nice, full, fluffy downy bodies.

He/she is just so odd!!! It makes me wonder if one of my girls was slumming with the Wild Mallards!

Depending upon sex & if I keep it it's name will be Pinny or Harry.

Wow! I'd bet he will need extra warmth and covering. I hope his adult feathers come in right when he grows up.

That is so weird. I had one duckling hatch from Cocoa's clutch that look forever to fluff out. I bathed her and everything and her feathers stayed stuck together like yours look. I think on my duckling it was the yoke that dries around them and this piticular ducklings just couldn't clean it off for a while. All of the other ducklings cleaned and scratched themselves but she didn't. Mayeb that is what is wrong with yours? I really don't have a clue just a guess.

see how bald his belly is? He really loves the fuzzy dog toy that's in there, almost everytime I look in the tub that's where he's at, perced on top of it.
