This can't be Normal, right??? (Please see Pics)

Ohhh I have no idea why this baby is like this but I adore him/her!! I just love the oddballs so much more than the "perfect" ones LOL

Well I have great news, I got ahold of a wonderful lady tonight, she adopted a gosling that I had early this year(it had a slipped tendon and developed problems with its other leg too). I explained his "problem" to her and that it may be some kind of genetic thing and also let her know that I wasn't sure how or if he/she would feather out correctly as an adult.

She will be picking him up in the morning and he will most likely be an indoor ducky.

she pretty-much fell in lov e when I told her he was all silky and a little bit bald-looking

(I also suggested she join BYC & gave her nettie's user name for duckie diapers, lol)

ETA: I don't think it'll be a problem getting picture updates, she's really sweet!

Going by his/her feet/legs/claws/nail/, he/she looks like a muscovy doesn't he/she? Will be interesting to see how he/she feathers out.....very likely normally!

My adopted mallard who was hatched from a bator did not have his feathers grow well at first. He looked like a half dressed broadway star.

He did get all his feathers however and became a very handsome drake! Hang in there!

He actually went ot live with a friend shortly after I posted this asking about his feather problem. I was too worried about him chilling after i moved them all to my outside brooder.... He was doing good but she did have to keep him bedded on a heating pad & always dry him off after baths or he would just shivvverrr forever. He did end up passing away a few weeks after moving in with them due to a very sad drowning accident.

She did say he started to grow a couple harder feathers but they were still very sparce.

I agree and think it might be genetic. We just actually adopted out a couple of cockatiels that we handfed. They are the lutino cockatiels and have bald spots behind their crests. These ones had a bigger blad spot on the top back of their heads than their mama ( who we handfed a few years ago). I have heard it is that type/color of cockatiels where it is more obvious than others and it has to do with genetics. Nice to hear he will have a good and home! The "ugly" ducklings of the batch or most times the best!
