This Can't Be Real...

As for a generally post on this thread for those interested in me showing my Silkies, there is a show coming up soon and I have to decide who to take!

I'm struggling on my decision, it's so difficult :th

The main reason is at this time of year, chickens (at least where I live) are moulting. Feathers out everywhere!

I'm confused as to why one of the biggest shows near me for poultry has decided to have the show during this time? :idunno

All the birds will look pretty scraggly...

Anyways, I'm thinking of taking:

• Bearded White Pullet (Flump)
• Non-Bearded White Pullet (PomPom)
• Non-Bearded Gold Pullet (Fizz)
• Bearded Blue Pullet (Oogy)

And the two I'm undecided on are:

• Bearded Partridge Pullet (Frappe)
• Bearded Gold Pullet (Carrot)

I'm undecided on Frappe because at the last show, her tail poof wasn't very impressive and I'm still thinking it's not the best.
As for Carrot, she'll only be 4-5 months old at the time of the show. Of course, there is no set age of showing but I'm just not sure what to do.

Maybe I'll just go for it and see what happens. It's always a good opportunity to get others opinions on your birds!

I just stumbled across your reply here! I apologise for the late reply back.

Yes I believe they had excess pet quality ones to sell, I saw Carrot and thought...'hm, you have potential!' :lau

I just had to get all 4 even though I only wanted the one.

The others were 100% pet quality and looked like cockerels to me. Totally different to Carrot.

I do have photos but I'll have to get them later on from my email.

Anyways, someone bought the 'spare' three today.

Carrot is still looking like a female but we will see!
No worries. I've been really busy/overwhelmed lately, so now it's my turn to apologize for the late reply.

It's cool a person can get chickens for so cheap. It's insane that some people sell certain kinds for like $2,400. Whoever is paying that much for an ayim cemani (sp?) is getting ripped off...

How's carrot looking today? Still feminine? :fl

That's very true, I think some prices are very insane for well...a chicken!

Although a chicken may be have show qualities or won shows doesn't mean they will produce winning chicks or even ever win a show themselves again.

Anything hitting over the £1000's must secretly lay golden eggs or something!

As for Carrot, she is still looking like a she but I'm still having those little doubts she could still be male.

I'll get some updated photos next week when I have a few days off work.

Everyone that's came to see my chickens love Carrot the most out of all my Silkies :lau

My next show is coming up this Saturday!

Preparation is already underway and bathing will be done on Friday night.

It's a pretty big show I'm going to buy I'm really looking forward to it.

The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the judge looking at one of my whites...PomPom that came second at the last show I attended.

Well...she's moulting and pretty much has very patchy scraggly wings. She's lost a lot of her primaries and secondaries and it looks shocking.

New feathers are coming in but I have a feeling she won't do very well this time.

Since this is the time of year for her full moult, I'll probably stick to showing her at the start of a year rather than the end.

Awesome! Out of curiosity (as I am from the US, and we don’t have any here) what is a gold Silkie?

A gold is just a buff coloured Silkie but over here we tend to call buff silkies gold.

There is a few shades though that can still be considered gold.

The lighter gold:

There is also a gold partridge which is brown partridge, just bred to be a lighter colour:
