I have a four to 6 month old cochin roo...he has been added to my flock for a few months-maybe two, and since day one has been very forceful about his position with the girls. I have two full size adult roosters-cochin who keep him in line-to an extent, but he does get to the girls. This guy is a machine!!!! He is all over these girls, constantly, and does not give up. The big roosters chase him off the girls, he goes after another! I also have another roo the same age as this aggressive guy who he picks on horribly...I thought this was semi normal "coming of age" behavior, but really, in comparison to my others, one the same age, I think not! My gut tells me the best thing to do is find him a new home...considering I believe he beat the crud out of a younger roo-primarily because he could....I think it best he goes...can you please weigh in on this with agreement or not, or suggestions? my personal opinion of this is that he is not a benefit to the flock. I have 30+ birds out there, two big roosters, tons of hens, and 4 roos total, I think I can spare the dude...but want to find him a good home.

I don't feel right keeping any roo in the flock who beats up the girls too much, or who makes them run from him. I figure I owe the girls better than that. It's unfortunate that they hatch half and half but do best more like one to ten -- but that's just how it is. In nature I think they probably kill each other, or force some into an isolated existence. I suppose the natural process ensures that the strongest and healthiest do most of the breeding.
