This is a children's movie?!

Yes, actually, it has been studied and documented without question that children who watch more violent shows and play more violent games are more agressive and involved in fights more than their peers who don't. The comparison to prostitiution is an apple and oranges comparison, IMHO.

I took a class on childrens literature in college, and it was fascinating. Children were exposed to death, disease, and violence at a much higher rate back then. The intent of fairy tales is to give children and outlet to deal with their own scary feelings and thoughts. They process the story to come to terms with their own fears. You can actually use them for therapy. And yes, some of the stories were definatley intended to "scare them straight".

It's all about striking a balance between exposing a child to scary things (I don't insulate my child from scary images, but I watch him and make sure he is okay when they do come up) and letting them work through it, while not making them numb to it and thinking that it is acceptable to mistreat others.

And I'm sure it totally factors in the fact that people who enjoy those kinds of things are probably more violent ANYWAY.

People watch and play what they prefer, violent people prefer violent media, just like nerds prefer games and movies that require thought.

When we as a society need a warrior what do we get? a warrior, When we need a prostitute what do we get? People make choices that effect their behavior not the other way around. Who teaches a child to lie? We come out of the womb kicking, screaming, demanding food and self centered wants. What was the excuse for bad behavior before television and video games. What caused the Mayans to sacrifice their young and old?. It was the love of God entering these parts of the world that put an end to the practices. Studies only offer possible answers, a study cannot predict the state of mind prior to the study. Now putting the future of the world into the hands of man that would be scarey enough given our history.

There is definately some truth to that, too. But it becomes a catch 22. Kids who are more aggressive seeing more violence makes them more likely to strike out at others instead of handling things without hurting them. And they have done plenty of studies that control for the inate differences in personalities, and it still holds true that watching more violence makes kids more aggressive.

What caused untold thousands of people to be executed in early modern Europe? The Mayans? Nope! It was "God's Love" against witchcraft

Also known as "ordinary people screwing with the actual words of the Bible, and other people listening because said ordinary people claimed authority."

Same goes for the massacring of Native Americans - totally unjustified and not at all biblically based. Don't get me started on the Crusades.
