This is a hen right?! 😂

If you can grab the chicken in question. Just look where the saddle and hackle feathers come in for new extra shiny oily looking feather growth. Thats how I started narrowing down the boy and girls. If I remember correctly by 3 to 4 month old, I could see them coming in under their teenage feathers.

please tell me this is a hen LOL. I bought them from a store, probably a month ago now. 1 was laying when I got her, the other one started letting about two weeks ago. This specific "hen" is not laying yet. She goes in the nesting box every day, but doesn't lay anything. Today I caught her fighting and mounting my other hen. They probably are around six months, I think they have just started laying. This hen is the loudest, yelling in the morning, but not crowing. I just wanted to double-check that it is in fact a hen and not a young rooster. They're supposedly americana's, they have cheek Puffs and a beard. This one has a middle part on top of its head.
I just got rid of an americana rooster. It looks like you might have a rooster. Compare with the hen, I see fancy pointy feathers on its chest. See if the hen has the same.

This looks like a Rooster!!!! Bigger brighter wattles, comb AND the face, Larger head feathers , pointer hackle feathers on the neck, longer tail.and bigger longer feet.

Real Ameraucanas don’t come in this color. This is called Red Pyle, and as stated by @Wishing4Wings in the quote above yours, if it were a male, it would have dark red wing patches. Edit: I did some fact checking, and while Red Pyle is not an accepted color in the Ameraucana SOP, there are people working on developing Red Pyle Ameraucanas.
Thank you for this. I saw the OP said it was an Americana, so hoping they knew it was an EE.
The EE cockerels I've had were unmistakable by 8 weeks, saddle feathers in by 13 weeks. Although I could tell by the comb before 3 weeks.
I have never heard of a cockerel getting to 6 months without the male specific feathers in full display.

Sorry. Not a hen. Notice the bright red comb and waddles.

I'm inclined to agree with these two. The big red comb indicates a roo, but it could just be a hen with a big red comb, and even a hen that doesn't lay. You won't know for sure until they start crowing, or until they indeed lay an egg. Are roos illegal in your area?

Hello everyone! You all have been very busy LOL, I appreciate your input very much. I've been watching this mystery chicken for a little while now. I don't see an egg yet. The comb is larger than the two layers. It's also bright red, which is why I thought it was a hen getting ready to lay.

However, I do have another mystery for you.
I brought these chickens home on June 1st, when they were at the store they were caged with a rooster. I just cracked open a couple eggs, and they're still fertile. So... Is my mystery chicken fertilizing them, or are they still fertile from over a month ago? 😂😂😂😂
