Hello everyone! You all have been very busy LOL, I appreciate your input very much. I've been watching this mystery chicken for a little while now. I don't see an egg yet. The comb is larger than the two layers. It's also bright red, which is why I thought it was a hen getting ready to lay.

However, I do have another mystery for you.
I brought these chickens home on June 1st, when they were at the store they were caged with a rooster. I just cracked open a couple eggs, and they're still fertile. So... Is my mystery chicken fertilizing them, or are they still fertile from over a month ago? 😂😂😂😂
A hens reproductive system should be clear of any rooster sperm in that amount of time.

I'm inclined to agree with these two. The big red comb indicates a roo, but it could just be a hen with a big red comb, and even a hen that doesn't lay. You won't know for sure until they start crowing, or until they indeed lay an egg. Are roos illegal in your area?

I don't think It's illegal necessarily, I could get away with having one. I just wouldn't want to upset my neighbors.

Thank you for this. I saw the OP said it was an Americana, so hoping they knew it was an EE.
The EE cockerels I've had were unmistakable by 8 weeks, saddle feathers in by 13 weeks. Although I could tell by the comb before 3 weeks.
I have never heard of a cockerel getting to 6 months without the male specific feathers in full display.

I figured they were EE, I was told they were Ameraucana by the store owner. I usually just look here to find out for sure. I wasn't looking for any specific breed though, so EE is fine! They are still beautiful. They do have the cheeks and beards though. Just not as fluffy it seems 😊
